ELECTRICAL DESIGNER

ABOUT THE ROLE

Hallberg Engineering provides engineering and consulting services to public and private clients across Minnesota from our two offices in Duluth and White Bear Lake. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, entry-level Electrical Designer to join our growing team. This is a developmental role intended for early-career professionals and recent graduates of a technical program who are beginning to apply academic knowledge in a practical, project-based environment. In this position, you will support the delivery of technically sound engineering solutions while performing progressively challenging tasks within the electrical discipline under close supervision for our Retail clients across the country. You will apply theoretical knowledge to real-world projects, gaining hands-on experience in designing electrical systems for commercial buildings. Working closely with experienced engineers and designers, you will contribute to delivering high-quality, innovative, and value-driven solutions for our clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities listed below represent core expectations but are not all-inclusive. Employees may be assigned additional duties as needed to support project delivery. Under close supervision, the Electrical Designer will:

  • Input and manage data within established software tools and preconfigured programs

  • Operate computer systems to run reports, calculations, and analyses

  • Assist in the design of project components and systems

  • Research commercially available equipment and materials

  • Support equipment selection and specification based on project requirements

  • Prepare and update design drawings, including those they have contributed to developing

  • Perform basic technical analysis and calculations

  • Review existing drawings to identify installed systems and equipment

  • Utilize CAD, Revit and other design software effectively

  • Participate in site visits and building walkthroughs as needed

  • Engage in internal training sessions and external professional development opportunities

  • Participate in relevant technical and professional organizations

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project success

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or diploma in Electrical Construction Design & Management or Power & Construction Engineering Technology from an accredited technical college

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience (internship experience considered)

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit strongly preferred

  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to follow instructions and respond to inquiries

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to travel to project sites as required

  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment in accordance with company policy following the training period

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Learn from experienced engineers through mentorship and peer collaboration

  • Participate in training programs, seminars, and professional organizations

  • Gain exposure to all phases of project development, from design through construction

REPORTING & COLLABORATION:

  • Reports to a Project Engineer or Senior Designer for daily guidance and task direction

  • Limited direct client interaction initially, with growth opportunities over time

  • Collaborate with internal team members and external vendor/sales representatives to gather technical information

  • Ability to evaluate the accuracy and quality of assigned work

LOCATION:

Full-time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

HOURLY RATE

$25.00-$35.00/hr
