LEE & PENNY ANDERSON ARENA
University of St. Thomas
UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS LEE AND PENNY ANDERSON ARENA is a newly completed, 250,000-square-foot multi-purpose facility that brings a world-class, energy-efficient athletic and event venue to the university’s St. Paul campus. Designed to elevate St. Thomas’ historic transition to Division I athletics, the arena now serves as the home for Tommie hockey and basketball, while also supporting major university ceremonies and a wide range of community events.
The state-of-the-art arena includes a 5,000-seat main competition venue, a second ice rink, dedicated practice facilities, sports performance and nutrition spaces, team locker rooms, and coaching offices. Premium fan amenities—including enhanced sightlines, club spaces, and flexible gathering areas—create an elevated game-day experience for students, families, and visitors.
Sustainability played a central role in the design and construction of the facility. St. Thomas is pursuing LEED Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council, supported by high-efficiency building systems, optimized energy performance strategies, and a building envelope designed for long-term durability and reduced energy consumption.
Beyond athletics, the arena is envisioned as a community destination. The facility will host commencement ceremonies, career fairs, local youth sports programs, and key events for neighboring schools and organizations.
Hallberg Engineering provided commissioning services for the project, ensuring that critical building systems operate as intended and meet the university’s high standards for sustainability, safety, and comfort.
